My very first day at MMUN was quite funny, actually. You see, we got to the hotel within minutes of the flag parade so we had to hit the ground running, which is difficult in nice dress shoes.

I felt some serious emotions and it was all extremely exhilarating in that moment because it was so spontaneous. I think of that moment whenever I have to adapt to change – unexpected and unscripted – which happens a lot in my life and where I live in Nigeria.

To be honest with you, I only used to see what was wrong with my country, what didn't work, what I didn't like, what “someone” should fix. After an awakening of sorts at MMUN, I began to see Nigeria in a new light and realized that “anyone” could be that “someone”, so why not teens like me?

AbdusSalaam is from Lagos, Nigeria and a former MMUN delegate of the People's Republic of China. Learn more about he and other teens are "Speaking About Social and Contemporary Issues in Nigeria" through social media.
